About Estimate My Refund
Estimate My Refund is run by a single independent builder as eight 2026 tax calculators built around one idea: show the math, not just the number. Every tool states the formula it runs, works a real example through to the penny, and cites the IRS figure, Revenue Procedure or published state-tax dataset it relies on -- the 2026 federal bracket thresholds, the Social Security wage base, the long-term capital gains thresholds, the state-by-state sales and property tax rates.
How the calculators work
Every ordinary-rate calculation on this site -- the federal tax estimator, the bracket calculator, and the ordinary-income portion of the capital gains calculator -- runs through one shared progressive-bracket engine, rather than each tool re-implementing its own bracket math. Self-employment tax, capital gains, the Additional Medicare Tax and the Net Investment Income Tax build on top of that same engine. Every formula is checked against a hand-derived expected value in the site's own test suite before it ships.
Where the figures come from
2026 federal income tax brackets, the standard deduction, and the Child Tax Credit come from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32. Long-term capital gains thresholds come from the same Revenue Procedure. The Social Security wage base comes from the Social Security Administration's 2026 COLA release. State sales tax rates come from the Tax Foundation's 2026 state rate table; state property tax rates come from SmartAsset's average effective rate table. Every one of these is linked directly from the page that uses it, not just named -- see each calculator's "how it's calculated" section.
What it doesn't do
This isn't tax, financial or legal advice, and Estimate My Refund isn't affiliated with the IRS, any state revenue department, the Social Security Administration, or any employer or payroll provider. Every result is an estimate from the inputs you enter and the published figures above -- real tax situations involve credits, deductions, local tax rates and filing details this tool can't know. Confirm any number here with the IRS, your state's revenue department, or a licensed tax preparer before relying on it. See Terms.
